While the Emerald Coast is best known for its sugar-white beaches and turquoise water, the holiday season brings an entirely different kind of magic. From pumpkin patches and Halloween festivals to Christmas lights and family-friendly New Year's celebrations, there's no shortage of ways to make memories once the weather starts cooling down.

Every year, our family puts together a holiday bucket list so we can be intentional about spending time together instead of realizing January arrived before we did half the things we wanted to do. Some traditions have become annual favorites, while others are still sitting at the top of our list waiting to be experienced.

If you're looking for family-friendly holiday events around Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, and the surrounding Emerald Coast, here are the activities we'd recommend adding to your own list.

Visit Sweet Season Farms in Milton

When people ask us where to experience fall on the Emerald Coast, Sweet Season Farms is usually one of the first places that comes to mind.

Yes, you're probably still going to sweat while carrying your pumpkin—this is Florida after all—but somehow it still manages to feel like autumn the moment you arrive.

What makes Sweet Season Farms special is that it's much more than a pumpkin patch. Families can easily spend several hours exploring the corn maze, racing down giant slides, playing in the activity areas, and stopping for countless family photos.

Every one of our kids seems to find a different favorite activity, which is part of what keeps us coming back year after year.

If you're looking to start a new fall tradition, this is one we'd absolutely recommend.

Trick-or-Treat at the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk

One of the more unique Halloween events we've experienced is the annual Pensacola Beach Boardwalk Trick-or-Treat event.

Instead of walking neighborhood after neighborhood collecting candy, local businesses and vendors line the boardwalk while families stroll from booth to booth in costume.

It has the feel of a community festival mixed with traditional trick-or-treating, all with beautiful waterfront views.

For families with younger children especially, it's an easy and fun way to celebrate Halloween without covering miles of sidewalks.

Celebrate the Holidays at Gulf Breeze Zoo

If you've followed Emerald Coast Playbook for any length of time, you already know we're big fans of the Gulf Breeze Zoo.

During the holiday season, we love visiting in matching Christmas outfits, letting the kids explore their favorite exhibits, and taking family photos throughout the zoo.

One parenting lesson we've learned? If every child is smiling and willing to take a picture at the same time, don't wait. Take the photo immediately.

This year we're especially excited to experience Zoobilee, the zoo's holiday lights event, and see the entire park transformed after dark.

Go Looking at Christmas Lights

Not every family tradition needs tickets or reservations.

Some of our favorite holiday memories have been the simplest ones.

We load everyone into the car, make hot chocolate, put on Christmas pajamas, turn up the Christmas music, and spend an evening driving through neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights.

It's inexpensive, easy to pull together, and somehow ends up being one of the traditions our kids remember most.

Sometimes the simplest evenings become the ones that stick with you the longest.

Ring in the New Year at Blue Wahoos Stadium

If staying awake until midnight with young kids sounds less than relaxing, the Blue Wahoos Family New Year's Eve Celebration is worth adding to your calendar.

We loved having a local event designed specifically with families in mind. There were activities, entertainment, and plenty of opportunities to celebrate together without waiting until midnight.

It was definitely a popular event, so expect some lines throughout the evening. Rather than trying to fit in every activity, we found ourselves simply enjoying the atmosphere and spending time together.

Pensacola Winterfest Is Finally on Our List

Believe it or not, we've never actually made it to Pensacola Winterfest.

Every year it ends up on our calendar, and every year something seems to come up before we make it there.

This is the year we're finally hoping to change that.

Ho Ho Hustle: Attempt Number Two

Sometimes family life doesn't go according to plan.

We actually registered for the Ho Ho Hustle once before, picked up our race packets, and had every intention of participating.

Someone was tired. Someone was overstimulated. Plans unraveled.

If you're a parent, you've probably lived a similar story.

We're hoping this year will finally be our redemption run.

One thing we've discovered since moving to the Emerald Coast is that some of our favorite family memories don't happen at the biggest attractions.
