That's exactly why it belongs on ours.

Head inland from the coast and you'll find a completely different side of Northwest Florida: rivers, farms, historic sites, family attractions and a small downtown that gives you another reason to explore beyond Highway 98.

Our family has spent time in this area, and we're building a Milton Playbook around the places we think are actually worth knowing about.

  • Downtown Milton and the Riverwalk area give you a much different experience from the beach towns farther south.

    It's an easy area to explore without needing a packed schedule, and it's one of the places we want to spend more time documenting as the Playbook grows.

  • For families with kids who love trains — or adults who love local history — the West Florida Railroad Museum is exactly the kind of smaller local attraction we want represented on Emerald Coast Playbook.

    It's not a giant theme park.

    That's the point.

  • The Blackwater River and surrounding natural areas are a huge part of Milton's identity.

    Paddling, outdoor recreation and exploring Northwest Florida's rivers give you an entirely different kind of Florida day from the Gulf beaches less than an hour away.

  • Milton has some particularly good seasonal experiences, including farms and fall activities.

    Sweet Season Farms is already on our list as we build out this side of the Playbook.

  • Our definition of the Emerald Coast experience has never been “go to the beach and stop.”

    We want to help families make the most of living here or visiting here — and sometimes that means heading inland.

    Milton gives you history, nature, family activities and a side of Northwest Florida that visitors staying on the coast may never see.

    And we're going to keep adding to this guide as we explore it.
