The Best Animal Experiences on Florida's Emerald Coast (2026 Family Guide)

If your family loves animals, you're in luck. The Emerald Coast is home to much more than beautiful beaches. From feeding giraffes and watching dolphins to meeting rescued sea turtles and supporting local wildlife rehabilitation, there are incredible animal experiences for every age.

The best part? Each attraction offers something completely different.

Instead of ranking them from best to worst, we're sharing what makes each one unique so you can choose the experience that's the best fit for your family.

🦒 Gulf Breeze Zoo

Best Variety of Animals

If you're looking for the largest variety of animals in one place, Gulf Breeze Zoo is hard to beat.

You'll find giraffes, gorillas, rhinos, zebras, lions, camels, Highland cows, reptiles, birds, and hundreds of other animals spread throughout a beautiful, family-friendly park.

If you haven't visited in a while, you'll notice several exciting updates, including:

  • A renovated budgie aviary

  • Four lion cubs

  • A baby camel

  • A new tortoise habitat

  • New stork exhibits

  • Updated narration on the Safari Train Express

One of our favorite things about Gulf Breeze Zoo is that you can customize your visit.

Families can purchase feed bundles for the Friendly Farm, feed giraffes, explore the budgie aviary, or reserve premium animal encounters for an even more memorable experience.

Best For: Families wanting the biggest variety of animals

Time Needed: 3–4 hours

Walking: Moderate

Rainy Day: Not ideal

Playbook Tip

Don't let your kids use all of the animal feed at the first goat enclosure. Save some for the camels and Highland cows later in your visit.

Also, don't miss the Safari Train. It departs at the top of every hour, with the last train leaving about one hour before closing.

🐬 Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park

Best Planned-Out Day

If your family loves marine life, Gulfarium offers one of the easiest attractions to enjoy because your day naturally revolves around presentations, keeper talks, and scheduled shows.

Throughout the day you'll see dolphins, sea lions, penguins, manatees, sharks, stingrays, reptiles, and more.

Want something even more memorable?

Optional animal encounters range from quick experiences to several-hour adventures with dolphins, penguins, harbor seals, sea lions, and other incredible animals.

If you're a member, keep an eye out for seasonal discounts on eligible encounters.

🐢 Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center

Best Conservation Experience

This smaller attraction delivers one of the most meaningful experiences on the Emerald Coast.

Home to Sweet Pea, a rescued green sea turtle that cannot return to the wild, the center focuses on education, conservation, and protecting sea turtles along Florida's Gulf Coast.

Beyond the exhibits, the center offers a variety of special experiences throughout the year, including:

  • Junior Sea Turtle Rescuer

  • Art workshops

  • Educational programs

  • Behind-the-scenes experiences

  • Seasonal family events

Many of these programs range from approximately $15–$75.

Scheduling your trip around a special program can make an already great experience even better.

🦉 Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge

Best Wildlife Rescue Stories

The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge isn't a zoo.

It's a wildlife rehabilitation center serving injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife throughout our region.

Many of the animals you'll meet now serve as wildlife ambassadors because they can no longer survive in the wild.

Every visit also helps support rescue and rehabilitation efforts happening behind the scenes.
